Terrific Tuesday ~ Etsy Faves and Finds!

Yes it’s Tuesday again which means more lovelies from Etsy!  I’m feeling Autumnal today so I’m going with a Fall theme.  It’s my favorite time of the year – perhaps because I’m a Libra, born in October and grew up with Halloween themed birthdays.  I love crisp, cool air and the smell of cinnamon.  The colors of turning leaves and muted, earthy tones resonate within me.  This year, my own color palette is a little “brighter” than the usual browns, oranges and greens – but they’re still my favorites.  So please enjoy and be sure to stop by these gorgeous shops and show some love!

Bragging Bags (http://www.etsy.com/shop/braggingbags) is a wonderful shop with an overall Autumn and earthy wedding feel to it. Lots of nature inspired gifts, favors, jewelry and accessories for rustic/country/green weddings.  I featured them in my fall.in.love treasury a while back and I just can’t get enough of this ethereal shop!  I love these pumpkin ring bearer “pillows”.

A new discovery for me, Nushkie Design (http://www.etsy.com/shop/Nushkie) offers absolutely gorgeous felt work.  Beyond Fall lovelies, Nushkie offers winter & Christmas designs, toys, Mermaids and wearable felt items.

One of the best things about Autumn for me is chilly weather clothing.  I love the colors, textures and warmth Fall colors and fabrics brings.  Anyone that knows me knows I love tights or leggings with a good skirt and a killer pair of boots.  I found some great organic leggings here at Conscious Clothing (http://www.etsy.com/shop/consciousclothing) and a few other great fall pieces.  Supporting fashion that is sustainable should be at the top of your Fall fashion shopping list!

Featured in the Star News Wilmington!

So a few weeks back I got a random reply to one of my blogs from a reporter for the Star News.  She was doing a feature on local Etsy sellers and asked if I’d like to be included.  Of course I said yes and waited patiently for the list of questions to arrive in my inbox.  Within a few days I had them and answered them promptly.  Later in the week a very nice photographer came to my house where I sat in my studio smiling for the camera.  I do not like having my picture taken at all!  But he was super nice and made it easy for me.  After he left, the waiting began.  The article was originally supposed to appear online the next week and in print within a few days after that.  Unfortunately it was delayed a few days and more waiting ensued.

Last week I received the joyous news that it was due out on August 15th in print – the Sunday paper!! Sometime late Friday night I happened online and found this:

Etsy wraps local artists, buyers in web of commerce

I was overjoyed to say the least.  I’ve never been featured in anything really, let alone the paper.  It’s a great article which you should definitely read when you have the time.

So, yesterday – Sunday – finally rolls around and I, of course, had to run to the store and check the paper.  I was totally blown away when I turned to the Work section and found this:

I couldn’t be happier and managed to buy a few copies to send to my family.  Please take a minute to read the online article (it’s the same as the print) and send me your thoughts!!

Here it is Tuesday and I’m home sick with a bug.  But that won’t stop me from posting some fabulous Etsy finds!  I’ve decided today to focus on Etsy clothing designers.  It amazes me what great wearable treasures you can find on Etsy.  Enjoy!

Thirsty Thursday – Etsy Edition

07/29/2010 § 1 Comment

As you may know by now I love Thirsty Thursdays!  I guess it’s a throwback to long gone college days or perhaps it’s just to signal and celebrate the coming weekend.   The older I get, the more particular I am about my Thursday imbibe.  Usually wine is the drink of choice – a nice Pinot Noir or Cab – something pricey enough to not give me a wine hangover but cheap enough to enjoy on my budget.  Sometimes nothing but a tasty margarita will do.   Choco-tini? Yummy!

You may also know (or at least should know!) how much I love, love, love Etsy.  So this week, instead of what drinks I want or drinks I love, I’m featuring a few really chic and classy accessories for your favorite tasty adult beverage.  So get thirsty and, as always,  please drink responsibly 😉

Oh The Places You’ll Go

06/24/2010 § 2 Comments

Lately I’ve had crafting fever.  I keep finding blog after blog after blog of yummy and delicious projects I really want to make.  I’ve also been working on the wardrobe for my hubby’s indie feature they’re filming here in Wilmington.  (The funny part about that is I don’t sew!)  It seems I’m being drawn towards fabric – I even constructed a necklace with flowers I made from recycled fabrics.

So, yesterday I took the plunge and ordered my very own Janome!  I did a bit of research and could not find a bad thing written about the brand.  Since I’m going to only be doing light sewing and I honestly haven’t used a machine in 20 years, I opted for the Sew Mini (below pic).  Got a great deal on a refurb, factory sealed in it’s original box.  Now I just have to wait the week it’s going to take to get here!

In the meantime I’m going to scour the net for projects to make once it does arrive.  I have a few so far – including a fabric cuff bracelet, a simple petticoat and a reconstructed t-shirt.  I also have plans for a line of jewelry incorporating hand sewn items – flowers, etc.  I’m super excited and I will be sharing my sewing journey with you!

Today for my Etsy picks, I decided to visit some folks I discovered months and months and months ago – way back when my Etsy journey began.

First, Times and Chimes is such a cute shop!  They specialize in bird houses decorated with vintage and antique treasures – some are even made of reclaimed wood.  During the holidays be sure to check in for their beautiful ornaments too!

Another favorite – Noadi’s Art – has really cool science inspired art and jewelry.  If you dig squid & science, this is your shop!

The Lemon Tree Studio is a-dorable.  Full of all things colorful, this shop really has something for everyone.  Cute girl’s dresses, handmade bags, cards, barrettes, toys and even home decor.

Adventures in Blogging

06/09/2010 § 1 Comment

Hello there – this is a feature that I started a ways back and am just now getting back into my blogging routine. Wednesday is that day of the week where things start looking up – the end of the week is in sight! For me as a 9-5’er it signifies almost being ME TIME. It’s also a day I like to catch up on my favorite blogs (see my Blogroll in the right column) and share a few with you. And since it’s also Word-less Wednesday, I’m going to pick some image heavy blogs with pretty things for you to look at!

A new blog I found (new to me, not to the world) Design For Mankind – it’s stylish and oh so pretty. Some good inspiration could come from this blog.

Junkculture is endlessly stylish and just plain cool. Lots of great work showcased here.
